Cortinarius pulchellus Lange syn. Cortinarius bibulus Quél.subgenus Telamonia Cap 1-2cm across, conic, then flat with an umbo; dull violaceous, fading to wine-brown; hygrophanous. Gills adnexed; violet at first, then rusty brown. Stem 20-50 x 2-4mm (3/t-2 x 3/3z-3/isin), equal or slightly swollen at the base; dull violaceous with a light coating of grayish fibrils. Flesh violaceous. Odor slight. Taste mild. Spores ellipsoid, roughened, 9-11 x 5.5-7µ, quotient 1.6. Deposit rusty brown. Habitat under alder. Occasional. Found in Europe and the Pacific Northwest. Season September-October. Not edible.
